RAINY WHILE SUNNY

Rainy while the sun shines. Sunny while it rains. Showers passing, like melodies. They make everything beautiful and to smell wonderful. Autumn. September.

Bicycled to the town in between those showers to develop a film (and to fetch the Tree House prints from the print shop) that has been longer than a year in my camera. What it becomes when there are no memories of frames taken. Empty pictures grow to patterns, colors, shadows. The raindrops on the window are from a few days ago, the first autumn rain. The sunshine on my hair is from early spring that we call as spring-winter in Finnish. The time when it is still very cold, there is a lot of snow left, but when the sun starts to reach us with its long but still tired yellow beams. That day I walked over the frozen lake from town to home. Afternoon sun of winter.

But now the autumn is here. A book, a dark chocolate bar, (a few candies called Iceland
with polar bears in them,) tomorrow a train trip, music and friends. Happy. Maybe some yarn to knit.

Heippa! Ihana naapurini Julia, joka asuu unikkokedon takana, vei minut kävelylle järven ympäri ja kirjoitti haastattelun kuvittamiseen ja yritteliäisyyteen liittyen. Kiitos Julia!

Two days ago my lovely neighbor Julia, who lives behind the meadow of poppies, took me for a walk around the small lake and wrote an interview with me.
Edit: Now also in English!

Soft melodies to your weekend. Stay well!

  1. Rain when is is sunny is so beautiful! I opened a nice dark chocolate bar last night- one that I will not share with the children- so they were in bed!

  6. Lovely pictures! I can't understand the interview but I did read Marjolein Bastin, who's from my country :D I think that means that your style resembles hers? Then I have to agree! You both have a very peaceful style!

    Have a lovely weekend.

  7. I love that you are developing photos! And bicycling in Autumn is a lovely thing! Just a little bit chilly and fresh and the smell of the earth in the air. Me and my daughter cycled the day before yesterday to the library and almost got caught in two rainshowers without our coats. We made it each time to shelter, and the sky asked us to stay put long enough to hear the world around us. Listening to rain with sun shining!

  8. Dear Anna Emilia, I love these two images you show us here. How wonderful is the light in the second picture and how beautiful do you look behind your camera! It is so nice to hear you writing about Autumn, also that it is weird as Spring is just about to start here. I was sitting in the sun today reading and enjoying a juice noticing the green branches of the tree which used to be bold the last couple of months. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Your rhubarb comment made me smile. I would love to have a tea while eating or preparing it...one day we will :)

  9. Dear Anna, I love your dairy so much. Although I'm a Chinese girl whose English is not so good, I still can understand what you see and what you feel. A friend of mine said to me once, "language is not so important, it is the heart that really matters." I think it's true. And I love your painting and photograph too, the emotion in them reminds me of the moomins: so gentle, so pure and so beautiful:)

  13. Kiitos itsellesi! Inspiroit minua niin, että pingotin pitkästä aikaa akvarellipaperin. Saa nähdä, mitä siihen näin kauniina maanantaiaamuna syntyy! :)

    Aurinkoista alkuviikkoa!

  14. how lovely, your words and photos. it reminds me of a film i recently watched. in "dreams" by akira kurosawa, it is said that when the sun shines while it rains, the kitsune (foxes) have their weddings. :)

  21. Dear Anna, I'm so glad to see you in my blog:) That log is about weather too, about the beautiful clouds of the late summer in Beijing, which is so rare to see nowadays, due to the air pollution.
