NORTHERN SUMMER

Summer in North, first in the waves of Norwegian and Barents Sea, then hiking the fells. Around lakes, deeper in the fjords. Calm waves, many bonfires, wrapped in many layers, with wide smiles, even with big puddles inside shoes. Whales, crowberries, cloudberries, eagles and crows. Mist that covers the fell tops.

GARDEN OF A MOON GAZER

It makes to feel so small sometimes when thinking as big thoughts as the distances between the Sun and our beautiful planet Earth. And that, here very early tomorrow morning, we see Venus passing in between these two.

How things could happen as they are now, that we have here a summer, in Sydney it is autumn. That we all can jump and we all drop down to the ground, no one getting lost in to the space. That there are such things as dark winter nights and nightless Northern summer nights. And how the Moon is such a good companion, always following us, showing his face to us so secretly. Full or half, a crescent. Sometimes hiding. That we see the Venus as a small black dot in front of the sun. Distances that are too long to think.

A garden for a night sky watcher, and shooting star finder. Garden for night time scents and blue flowers. A small tent hut also for a gazer of the transit of Venus. Garden of A Moon Gazer available as an original painting from me and as different sized prints from L’Affiche Moderne. Thank you so much Mélanie for this opportunity!

Is it possible to see the journey of Venus from your place? Will you see it? (Please, remember to protect your eyes!) Let´s see if the weather is fine here tomorrow morning. Today it shines through puffy sheep-formed clouds.

Greetings to Venus, to Moon and to you.

FEATHER HOME

A small resting place middle of bushy pine trees, a feather home. Soft walls, weather-proof. A warm carpet, summery wallpapers. For a secret rendezvous or for time alone. For one or two nights. For silence and calmness. For whispering moments. For alive fire and bright starry nights. For one night everything is possible.

Happiness to you all sweet ones to enter the 2012!

ALLOTMENT TENT

A small house, just the size for a humble ladybird from paper scraps. Was thinking of north, of Lapland where I will travel next week. But it is more a house for a humble ladybird than a Sami tent.

An evening walk in sunset. A pink evening walk. It has been very warm. Hot. Working behind closed curtains during days and reading a book by the arboretum shore about building a shed in the evenings. Then on the way home a longer path till the sun sets. Today in the allotment garden, where two grannies were marveling at all the blooming in their white pajamas. Lilacs scenting everything.

See you in the week of Midsummer bonfires. Summer whispers from me to you.

P.s. Hopefully showing you soon a new picture for a nice project.

MEADOW PICNIC IN PARIS

The lake is so blue these days. It is difficult to describe which kind of blue it is. A warm or cold, dark or covered with shadows of the waves in it. Or filled with sun rays. Shining and reflecting once in a while to the walls of this house. A spring blue, changing all the time.

It is warm again here. Time for having breaks outdoors. Some tea and fruits will always follow. This Meadow Picnic -illustration is for Sessun and their spring exhibition Chic Chic Chic, C'est Picnic. If you are in Paris between May 20th to June 11th, please go and have a picnic with them.

Based in South Africa, Nice Magazine has featured my work. It is wonderful to travel the world through all of you, your comments and emails. Thank you!

Blue skies and songs of seagulls to your weekend!

AUTUMN HOME

Time to hide from rain and cold days. To make a fire in the fireplace (or smell the fire from the neighbors´). Walk in forests to see how everything yawns, repairing themselves for a long sleep. Just mushrooms are about to wake up. In a corner of a small forest and near a tiny pond is this tent, would it be fine as a roof for the autumn?

This tent is part of Small magazine´s Small draw project. You can download the image, print it and color it together with the small of yours (or why not yourself too). A few pages about my work on page 29 till 32. Thank you Olivia and Christine for including my work to your beautiful magazine!

Saturday baking, (my own translation from ohraryynirieska) vegan barley galette is in the oven. A slice with margarin and then ready to bicycle to the town. To smell the cold air.

Stay warm and smiling.

NAME DAY

On my name day my grandmother got her engagement ring 61 years ago while an accordionist played and others danced on the dance floor. I got yellow roses, a mattress vine and a twig wreath to hang on the door. The yellow roses reminded me of these sketches I drew during summer drinking tea while elm leaves were falling to the table. Today a handful of snowflakes were floating in the grey sky while I was walking in the forest and looking what was left of the small branch lodges we used to built when we were small. Just a few branches. Good night, sleep tight!

HIDING FROM THE DARKNESS INSIDE TENTS

Working and dreaming of tents. Photograph from the summer of 2005 in North Iceland just after a rain shower during midnight. Have a pleasant Thursday!

P.s. Here are nice covers, one also made by me.
