MON HERBIER

Leaves flying in the wind, the first rain drops drizzling after many sunny autumn days. Frost appearing on some mornings, Northern lights dancing on some nights.

Mon herbier, a botanical guide and a herbarium available now from Rustica éditions. Text by Michel Luchesi, illustrations by me, edited by Julie Parpaillon and design by Caroline Soulères. A box with all the tools to make your own herbarium: a botanical guide and a notebook to collect your leaves. The nomadic botanical guide explains many things about the trees and the forest life: the shape of their leaves, their host animals, the fruit and flowers, and gives interesting hints about activities and discoveries. A spiral notebook allows you to paste all the leaves from your walks. Text in French.

Hopefully you enjoy collecting and learning about leaves!

ANNA EMILIA FOR NARUMI

This spring is filled with flora. Clovers, crocuses tied as grandmother's bouquet, apple blossoms blooming in Finnish fir forest. Meadows of green, forget-me-nots here and there.

It is my pleasure to show you some of my paintings from a few years back in a new tableware collection for Narumi in Japan. It is a mix-and-match collection with bone china, with some glazed items and also with glass tumblers, the collection to be continued.

A new continent, a new big story to tell! Butterflies in my tummy!

You can view all the items on Narumi's online store here, available now. Sorry only in Japanese!

Spring has been arriving lately with bright blue sky and warming golden sunshine. Tonight, maybe some Northern Lights appear. With a thermo bottle of hot tea and wrapped in wool I walk to stare the sky.

Arigato Narumi!

Happy spring!

SOFT FEATHERS, JACADI F/W 2014

First snow might fall during the coming week at least in the North Finland. Time to be wrapped inside woollen softness, smell the fire in fireplaces after long walks in fresh darkening evenings and drink warm apple juice with cinnamon.

It is also time to have a little peek to Jacadi's new fall and winter collection. Some winter blooms are on their way, a hint of it as a small collar hugging a polar bear above.

But in a forest someone is calling "Hoo, hoo, hoo!"

It is a tiny owl, that has just woken up. The feathers of the owl are very soft.

While the owl is stretching, a few little feathers float in the air and fall on some colourful leaves of autumn.

Who could make a little nest on these leaves and feathers…

Soon we will see the second part of Jacadi's fall and winter collection with my illustrations. These Feather Collection items are available at Jacadi's site already.

Last year there were a deer, a squirrel, a little bird and a hedgehog in the Jacadi & Anna Emilia collection, you can see them here.

L'ours et le soleil -book is also still available (here and here).

Have a lovely Sunday raking leaves, enjoying the colours of changing landscapes!

DANDELION FIELDS COLLECTION

The end of August brings new winds. Layers of wool, hot cups in hands, some slight oranges, yellows and reds here and there in trees. Moments to light a candle in darkening evenings, to embrace the calmness of the nights.

Dandelion Fields Collection, a stationary collection published by Chronicle Books, is to celebrate the autumn and colder air. To remember the dearest and to write a few warming thoughts down on flower fielded lines.

The Notebook Collection consists of three different Notebooks with hand drawn lines.

Foiled covers, sewn with a thread. The three Notebooks are tied together with a turquoise thread.

The Notecards come in a box with envelopes. Sixteen cards, four different kinds, blank inside.

Ready to be sent with some warm whispers to someone far.

The Box of Labels, to decorate and label jars, parcels, books, notebooks, those boxes on your shelf that are filled with sewings, summer memories and all the baking ingredients and the things you were not sure about.

This sketchbook belongs to me.

Edit: Those of you who want to buy the items in Euros, please find them through Book Depository. All the items are also available through Amazon.

Dandelion Wishes Journal (pictured in the first photo up right) is also still available.

Hopefully you enjoy this small Dandelion Fields Collection with my illustrations!

IN SHADOWS OF TREES

Under tree shadows, on forest paths, on city streets with Canadian jugglers, swimming and reading.

Helmenkantaja by Marja-Leena Mikkola is a sweet but adventurous story about a girl and her journey under summery shiny waters. Cover illustration by me, design by Päivi Puustinen, published by Otava in Finnish. So grateful to illustrate this cover for my own childhood favourite author.

Tickling sun beams!

"Klassikko tekijän suloinen mutta jännittävä saturomaani ammentaa taitavasti vanhasta suomalaisesta tarinaperinteestä.

Eräänä aamuna Reetta näkee kesäpaikan rannassa suuren pyrstön välähdyksen vedessä. Hän saa viimein varmistuksen sille minkä on aavistanut aina: veden pinnan alla on kokonainen toinen todellisuus salaisuuksineen, aarteineen ja vaaroineen.

Veden väki on ahdingossa. Joku on vienyt Veden emännän kauniin pienokaisen. Reetan on aika täyttää oma osuutensa ikivanhasta ennustuksesta.

4 YEARS, A GIVE-AWAY

On Saturday, my small company turned 4 years old, hurrah! Thank you so much for supporting my work by your beautiful words, orders, hearts through Instagram and just following my tiny steps! They mean so much to me.

To celebrate, maybe a small give-away could be organised. Hopefully you like the idea! Please just leave a message here with your email address and you are playing the game! One will receive the Dandelion Wishes Journal published by the Chronicle Books with some of my greeting cards. Let´s play until the next Monday evening, the 21st. Good luck!

The journal is also available for purchase, of course.

Just a moment ago, I celebrated these lovely 4 years being an entrepreneur by finding a new friend. She is red and has two wheels. Happy new bicycle trips are waiting, eager to share our future journeys with you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

BIRCH WOODEN FENCE

A little snowstorm after sunny days. The light is still so enchanting, even through the snow. Balcony is filled already with grape hyacinths, one crocus and one daffodil. This song is like the weather today, whitening every moment, crispy and soft the same time. Fearless.

Radio is on, it is still early morning where it hums from. Songs for the sea and seamen, songs for the ones behind mountains. Songs that are surrounded by much lower birch trees.

Wooden Fence from a few years back as a wall muralduvet cover and pillow cases for Urban Outfitters, available now. To make a little birch forest inside your home. Hopefully you enjoy!

A little feature about my work in the new Finnish children's magazine Kidd.O Magazine (in English).

Thank you so much for visiting here and for your kind words! You are so many out there, all over the world.

Springtime snowstorm warmth!

MEADOW DREAMS

Hello,

What is inspiring you this spring?

For me it is the light that is reaching to every corner and tickling cheeks and wrapping its arms around the furthest of spots. The first afternoon nap in the balcony. The evenings when blackbirds sing in a nearby tree. The wind, even though it blows all the street dust and sand to eyes. Bicycling and the sunset reflection on frozen lakes. Reading about far-away places, checking maps of those places and plans about visiting those same far-away places. The phone calls and little messages. Knocks on the door. Taste of freshly baked bread. The truth that the wind will still turn. Most probably already this weekend. Maybe better not to store away all the winter clothes just yet.

Waking up with the sun.

Tamah duvet sheet and pillow case designs of my In Meadow painting available at La RedouteMeadow dreams of sunshine tickling your nose. In Meadow available also as a print.

Soft dreams of early spring!

AND THEN THE WINTER CAME

Winter finally arrived. Frost sharply biting nose and cheeks, colouring them red. After snow the sun came. So orange, shining still so low. The sky so blue.

The snow making a new melody and rhythm. Balcony windows frozen, today I drew a small window to the frozen garden.

A small book published last year with poems by Anna-Mari Kaskinen and my illustrations.

Moonshines, starry nights!

L'OURS ET LE SOLEIL, A BOOK ABOUT A WINTER ADVENTURE

Hello December! Winter is here and the landscape is covered in whiteness, softness and silence. Children play and here and there snowmen appear. Snowmen or snow animals. Small lights appear on windows early afternoon as the darkness arrives. Chimneys on the roofs of houses blow narrow breaths of smoke from warming and glowing bonfires.

It is my pleasure to show you my second illustrated book. L'Ours et Le Soleil is a book about siblings Sigrid and Peter and their winter adventure through forests and mountains. The story is an adapted version of L'ours qui avait pris le soleil by Paul-Jacques Bonzon. The book includes also a cd with the story as a musical fairy tale performed by Domitille and Amaury de Crayencour. Published together by naïve and Jacadi in French.

Secrets of forests in the snow.

A long journey with new friends.

The wintery landscape and the sun shining so low, until it disappears completely. A few festive dresses by Jacadi.

A story for the small and a bit older too. The book is available through Amazon and here too. Hopefully you enjoy it!

What a lovely weekend it has been with friends. Takk  to everyone around! Last night a winter storm was knocking on the windows and this morning many trees seemed to be fallen. Wishing that the weather freezes the ground quickly so the trees with their roots can manage through the strong winter winds.

Happy December playing in the snow, stay warm!
