COLOURING SEPTEMBER MOODS

Hello September!

Gardens still bloom, meadows are filled with dragon flies near to the lakes. Every possible minute outdoors, sleeping under stars, watching full Moon and Aurora Borealis on dark sky. The cool misty mornings are swept away slowly with sunshine and warmth, until the evening cools everything to perfect temperature, to woollen cardigan weather.

A few new prints available in the small online shop! Meadow Path, that can be coloured in, Tree Village with blue evening moments, Butterfly Branches to savour the last summer moments and Buttercups to think of the new coming spring.

The Tree Village and Butterfly Branches were made with the kind support from Arts Promotion Centre Finland. Thank you for the support!

Long walks, warming drinks, starlight!

SUMMER BIRCH TREE

Boat trips on the lakes of this city, bicycling from shadows to warm sun. The wind that hymns its summer songs through birch tree leaves with different melodies. Swallows late in the evening. Swimming and reading books, feet in water.

Summer Birch Tree -poster available in the small online shop, here.

July greetings!

SPRING ALLOTMENT

A few coltsfoot, that have popped up from the earth, are more yellow than the Sun, that shines through a misty cloud on its way down behind the city. Orange and purple Crocuses are awake too. The lake is melting every day more, the waves are happy and alive. Glimmering those golden rays of the one hiding shyly behind the misty clouds.

Spring Allotment, a new little garden to grow up with, for L'Affiche Moderne, is now available. Its companion painting, Garden of A Moon Gazer, is still available too.

Spring Allotment is supported by Arts Promotion Centre Finland. Thank you so much!

Spring wishes!

LITTLE SECRETS

Wild Peonies -print.

A stormy wind is singing its songs outside. The last nights the Moon shone so beautifully with dark silhouettes of tall fir trees under her. Wishing that some snow would soon arrive.

Inside in candlelight it feels cozy to write postcards and pack orders with a cup of tea listening to the wind. On the table branches of fir tree and a long list of things undone. Secret moments.

A few days left to get orders from my small online shop delivered on time for the Holidays. (On the right of this site, under Blog Archive you can also find some direct links to my illustrated books and stationary.)

Happy secret times!

WILD PEONIES, A PRINT, ONLINE SHOP UPDATE

Some snowflakes are floating in sunshine and the lake was a little bit frozen from the shore this morning. Waking up with candle light, pouring an extra cup of tea, watching as jackdaws visit the rowan tree, berry by berry. Welcome winter!

Wild Peonies, for the arriving dim times, to brighten up a little. An A3-sized poster available now in my small online shop.

Pink, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, small details collected from my late summer walks on my soft watercolour paper.

I Dream, a few detail photos added.

The shop is updated with more posters and books, for the winter's sake. The first ten orderers receive an extra winter greeting card as a thank you for the coming celebrations.

I´m over the Moon because of this week's newspaper article about the book that has a cover with my illustration. So rarely the book cover illustrator is mentioned, but this time the work was seen. And liked. Thank you!

Red-cheeked winter greetings!

MAY BOUQUET IN A CLOUDY LATE SUMMER'S DAY

Sunny days, coffee in the harbour, long bicycle trips on hills and around lakes. Wrapped inside a woollen blanket when the sun sets, gazing the small lake from my balcony. The scent of fresh late summer evenings, with almost ripen apples from all directions. The scent of fire as people start to heat their houses with fireplaces, smoke curling up from chimneys.

Here the autumn is close, in my summer holiday destination the sun sets for the first time in four months tomorrow. On the other side of the world, the spring arrives.

The first peonies in old pink and succulents in spring green are colouring the landscape of sunshine and warm winds. Warmest congratulations to R & G in Paris, who ordered this custom painting for their wedding invitation

You can find a few prints of this painting in my small online shop.

Clouds on the sky, shadows hiding. Colours of today on my painting table are mint green, ice blue and rowen orange.

Second pot of green tea, calm wishes!

ONE WINTER NIGHT

Forest Cuckoo -print

It can happen sometimes, at 23:02, just when you are brushing your teeth and have just switched on your reading lamp by your bed and are eager to get in between fresh clean sheets on a cold first winter night, that you get the idea that you were searching for for the whole day. Then it naturally happens that your reading lamp shines lonely and you find yourself toothbrush still in mouth sketching fourty-five minutes later.

Written on my sketchbook last week with drawings of trees, birds and snowfall.

Two new prints, Forest Cuckoo and Blossom Sailing plus some new greeting cards in my online shop. Hopefully you enjoy them!

Silently the first snow came, silently it also disappeared other night. Thank you for the comments in the last post, it became such a nice dictionary of the word "snow". Rain on the calendar with hints of sun rays.

Have a good last day of October, welcome November! Warm evening greetings with dark cloud silhouettes on the sunset sky!

POCKETS, BASKETS, BAGS, HANDFULS

Mushrooms all over. All size and colours. Some hiding with their colours, some waving with their brightness. Baskets, pockets, bags and hands full. Buckets of apples. Chilly autumn air that is filled with scent of apples and cinnamon.

Bicycle Caravan to friends. Available as a bit smaller print in my shop, too.

How lovely to get home after long walks and bicycle trips, to feel the warmth of home while stepping in. To get nose and hands warm again and turn on lights. The mornings are traveling further, they come later. The traveling birds too, migrating. Imagining suitcases to them with swimsuits and beach towels. Au revoir, see you next year the winged ones!

Stay warm, have a calm week!

GARDEN OF A MOON GAZER

It makes to feel so small sometimes when thinking as big thoughts as the distances between the Sun and our beautiful planet Earth. And that, here very early tomorrow morning, we see Venus passing in between these two.

How things could happen as they are now, that we have here a summer, in Sydney it is autumn. That we all can jump and we all drop down to the ground, no one getting lost in to the space. That there are such things as dark winter nights and nightless Northern summer nights. And how the Moon is such a good companion, always following us, showing his face to us so secretly. Full or half, a crescent. Sometimes hiding. That we see the Venus as a small black dot in front of the sun. Distances that are too long to think.

A garden for a night sky watcher, and shooting star finder. Garden for night time scents and blue flowers. A small tent hut also for a gazer of the transit of Venus. Garden of A Moon Gazer available as an original painting from me and as different sized prints from L’Affiche Moderne. Thank you so much Mélanie for this opportunity!

Is it possible to see the journey of Venus from your place? Will you see it? (Please, remember to protect your eyes!) Let´s see if the weather is fine here tomorrow morning. Today it shines through puffy sheep-formed clouds.

Greetings to Venus, to Moon and to you.

BLUE FORESTS

Happy last day of April,

Late Sunday night in the balcony listening to birds with their lullabies when the sun is still giving a few rays of light over the trees. Good night stories read from the reflections in the waves of the small lake. Dark shadows growing, calm water taking over them. Later, reading a book about the Trans-Siberian train, dreaming. Violets planted on the balcony. Bees flying.

1. Apple Blossom Meadow -print (no. 11) in the South Korean Marie Claire Maison -magazine (March issue). Thank you for the photo Isabelle Kim!

2. Sunday bike ride with a friend to the hill with wooden houses to have an afternoon tea. Blue forests of Kidneywort.

Helene of Auprès de Mon Arbre won the giveaway, congratulations. Thank you so much for writing all those precious things!

Have a beautiful jump over the entrance of May!

MORNING FROST MEADOW

It rains in a melody of greetings from the South. The waves of the lake are alive again, they rush to shore with a strong wind. Color gray is echoing from the lake to the walls of houses, to the tree trunks, to the sky. The grass is still green. Waiting for snow, which does not come to visit. Tiny raindrops trickle down like a black and white movie on the balcony windows. Warm cups of tea, black pen and white pages of sketchbook are a good companion to listen to that orchestra of weather.

Morning Frost Meadow happened one morning in sunrise. The dew was suddenly frozen, the last flowers like statues with their shiny icy covers. It is available as a print at The Working Proof. 15% of all the sales goes for charity.

Lately there have been many questions about original paintings. If you are interested on something, please send me an email. Many originals are still available, for example the painting above. Hello to you all, and especially to all the new ones (who might have found their way through Design*Sponge), so glad to have you here.

Have a warm, cozy weekend.

FROST GARDEN

This week it might come, the first snow. Still a hint of orange light, sunset on a clear sky. Some clouds in shape of dancers, in a strong wind.

Last night the Moon was making a hole to the black sky. Which colored thread could have been the nicest to mend it with a needle? Violet probably, light blue too. The lunar maria of the Moon were so visible, if they really were seas I wondered who all were bathing in them.

One morning the winter came. It was drawing frost gardens to all the windows. I blew warm air from my mouth to one of the windows and rubbed a small circle to the ice with my warm hand. All the landscape was covered with a white blanket outside, but gardens on my windows bloomed all the winter through.

Frost Garden on My Window -print is now in the shop, with a few more pictures of it. I wait it to appear on my windows later this week too.

Orange colored Monday greetings, have calm days.

CLOUDS DANCING

A cake with dates, blueberries, dark chocolate in the oven. Welcome for an afternoon tea. Cold weather, warm woolen socks. Lime green tea. Outside a movie of changing light as the clouds dance by. Light blue with cyan, paper white, cotton yellow, gray of ash. Colors of the sky.

Stay warm, have a calm weekend!

P.s. Some of the prints in my shop are sold out soon. Thank you kindly for the orders so far!
P.p.s. These are the results of printing with cardboard. The plate which was carved and the prints.

WAITING FOR RAIN

Friday afternoon is for jazz, rhubarb pie and planting an avocado with small leaves into a pot. It is also going through photos of old times, winter and letters received. It is funny how "other" things feel comfortable in this kind of moment. Sun in the rain, rain in the sun. Now as waiting for the rain, it is like in-between everything. Wise man in the radio said this morning that it is not good to long for the past, but it is good to long for the future because of the beautiful memories in the past. It is good to have eaten a piece of rhubarb pie in the past to know that it was good and maybe I can have a small piece more now...? Wishing to share it with you.

There are two new prints in my shop:

In Meadow, Wood sorrel, Forget-Me-Not, Twinflower, Harebell and Meadow Pea are the scent of this small meadow. A few birch tree leaves, a handful of clovers and a gentle summer wind are here.

Bike Caravan, This small house is cleaned from winter´s dust, windows of it have been washed and polished and new carpets put on the floor. Some oil on the gears and chains and the trip with spring can start. Which curvy forest roads will we head to? Smoke from the chimney and laundry drying on the roof, those will be the only signs we leave behind. Every evening a new landscape to fall asleep with.

Both prints are on recycled 300 grams silk matte paper and will be signed by hand. In Meadow is a painting I did just a few weeks ago as an assignment, more about that soon. Bike Caravan is a painting from 2009 for an American clothing store. Hopefully you like them.

Will the rain come? I think to have seen a few drops, and the birds have stopped to fly above the lake.

Have a calm weekend.

APPLE BLOSSOMS

Do you know how it feels to fly? In sunset the seagulls are covering the streets by the lake and you bicycle. When you reach the seagulls, they arise on their wings and float in the air next to you, accompanying your journey. They sing and it feels like the ground is gone, you only have sky around you and the seagulls as stars or far-away planets hanging in the air. You float too and the air is sweet, warm, and a bit moist of the coming night. That is how I felt last night about flying.

There are apple blossoms everywhere, on the way to anywhere. Bird Cherry is in full bloom too and the wind brings its scent from behind every corner.

Thank you again for your orders. Apple Blossom Meadow -print has been very popular and it feels good to have sent it to all around the world. I never thought it would reach so many homes of yours as I painted it last summer on a rainy day. Thank you so much!

Have a blue skied weekend.
Hearts.

MIXTURE OF LAVENDER, HONEY AND SMOKE SCENT

Dear Wednesday, dear you,

How are you?

Bicycling under rain showers, wind gusts and very grey clouds. I wonder what those are humming on their way. Where do they start and where do they end. Orange, yellow, red and purple are clothing trees and bushes. Dots of these colors are glued to the streets. Polka dots of leaves. Early mornings are very dark and breakfast can be eaten in a candle light. Sometimes just after the paper woman has dropped the newspaper of the day. Yesterday I asked what the rain does in my shoes on my way in the town. I thought to own the shoes but seems the rain rented them away.

Thank you once again for your comments and emails. They are always a surprise to make me smile.

News of today, Forest Tearoom is a print and available in my shop. A painting from the summer, Apple Blossom Meadow is also available again as a print. Many have also asked about my original paintings. Yes they are also for sale, many are already sold. Please send an email to me if you are interested.

Whispers of the wind and lunctime love,

Anna Emilia
