COUNTING TREES, A GIFT LIST OF DECEMBER

These streets and views in different weather became very familiar to me during November, a month in a residency in Reykjavík. My Travelogue grew in wind, in snowy days and in sunshine and frost pinching nose. With dear new friends and so many shared teacups and cakes, songs of ravens. The lighthouse was twinkling, the Aurora Borealis danced on the sky. Swimming water was warm, the mountains snowy. The paintings were done with the support from Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

If you are looking something to give to your dearest, these are some items available with my illustrations:

LITTLE SECRETS

Wild Peonies -print.

A stormy wind is singing its songs outside. The last nights the Moon shone so beautifully with dark silhouettes of tall fir trees under her. Wishing that some snow would soon arrive.

Inside in candlelight it feels cozy to write postcards and pack orders with a cup of tea listening to the wind. On the table branches of fir tree and a long list of things undone. Secret moments.

A few days left to get orders from my small online shop delivered on time for the Holidays. (On the right of this site, under Blog Archive you can also find some direct links to my illustrated books and stationary.)

Happy secret times!

SPRING WINTER

Slowly it appears, the winter light. If counting small moments, the days are already a bit longer. Skating and observing new snow covers over the old ones. Every season is my favorite. This early spring-winter is the favorite of this moment. Cold air is so good to breath.

Thank you dear Barbara for the beautiful gift (and the cardigan).

Early spring flower scents of Grape Hyacinth, or pearl lily as it is called in Finnish. On my painting table other flowers are blooming.
Have a calm Tuesday.
Hearts.

(The book and the paper boat in the first and third photo by Barbara.)

CARDAMOM COFFEE, MELODIES OF THE WIND

On a cloudy day. Feeling like it would already be an evening. A smile comes back from these greetings from Paris. Also the sunshine, if imagined enough. Outside the strong rushes of an autumn wind. Time to find some wool around.

Hot water boiling. Grinding cardamom seeds. A dash of cinnamon. Another one of vanilla. Coffee time. A very early one. Wondering how long I am able to keep those jars untouched. Till the next coffee time?

Oh, the weekend. A light(house) ship, beautiful melodies (a small moment to be back in the treasure island), guiding hands (while writing sms´s in street lights), the longest breakfast (feeling like abroad), walking, admiring houses and boats (especially the lighthouse one and another called Elvira Inga), a small food market, the deepest nap on the way back, in train. Sunshine at home.

Afternoon greetings.

SUMMER INSIDE AN ENVELOPE

Hello dear February,

A little bit of sun, a little bit of clouds. Like a mixture of fresh grape fruit and some whipped (oat) cream, the sun beams loose some of their color when traveling through the clouds. But gives everything a new feeling. Color of a reflection on the snow or a color of a pine tree bark behind a frost layer. And then as a surprise a bit of bright blue spring sky, almost bitter in tone.

Tea moments of this house are now scented like an exotic summer day in a far-away garden. Dear Maria sent a surprise of a lavender scent. Every time my teapot gets hot from now on, smiles are flying to Australia. Thank you, danke schön liebe Maria! Tea and lavender, two favorite things.

An article about a mother who gets depressed after giving birth, with my pictures in the new issue of Kaksplus magazine. A cure: chocolate.

For me, green tea, lavender and dark chocolate in between pencil lines and brush strokes.

For you, hearts.

RAINDROPS ON A MEADOW

Dear Friday,

Walking the morning in a meadow by a lake next to my home. A rain shower turned everything to a deeper brightness of a color and myself very wet. Summer rains are best of kinds. Snails, silent birds and sound of the lake while raindrops touch its surface.

A framer in a corner shop a few blocks away has hands of million stories. I tried to imagine all the pictures his hands have framed in his life.

The painting he framed for me this time is a wedding gift for a childhood friend with who we had a secret club called Mikki. We had a secret language, secret notebooks and secretly we recorded our parents´ conversations. Those secrets never revealed, even to us.

Have raindrops on roof and a bit of sunshine for your weekend!

P.s. Lately I got many emails and comments asking if I sell my work. I do, please just email me! There will be also a small online shop very very soon!

WHILE OTHER LAYERS OF PAINT DRY

February is a birthday month. While other layers of watercolors were drying I painted 30 + 31 roses for my friends. (Though now I counted that the 31st rose is missing.)

Today a layer of Payne´s Grey Bluish is drying. For the afternoon it will be a lot of different browns and oranges. That goes well with an afternoon tea or a coffee.

Sunday has a certain end-of-the-week weather today. The horizon is lost between the light grey sky and earth. Dust patterns of snow are flying in the air and the wind is silent. A bit of mist appears. A bit of brown as tree trunks peek from the snow.

How is your Sunday?
I hope you enjoy it.

MALAYSIAN TONES

Days will be warm with this gift from my parents. I was painting with Alizarin crimson when I received it. Indian yellow was the color of the sun when it peeked through clouds for a few moments. I borrowed its color too.

Birds are singing a lot these days. Also the light has changed, it is more white and it reaches further corners of the rooms. I have almost forgotten that there are corners in these rooms, the winter has passed next to the windows.

Have a happy, soft and raspberry jam —scented weekend!

HOME, FINALLY

For two and a half months I was away from my own home because of some renovation work. Yesterday I came back. Good to be at home, even though I think I made a home to every place I stayed even for a while. By sea and surrounded by mountains or middle of lakes, forests and fields.

There was waiting the best Name day gift from sweet Anne. Thank you so much Anne, it is very beautiful! I was so surprised.

The whole day it has been snowing. Many heaps to climb over on the streets. But in the new kitchen is tea boiling all the time. Thank you my special tea hunting agent for sending me some spicy herbal ones over the sea.

How are you? How is the weather there?
