POLAR SUMMER POSTCARDS II

It is the sky that gives all that space to breath. Those trees that are not there, making everything to look like all is very close to you. The roots of mountains, their tops and the valleys in between them.

Then you see a small rock and think that it is very far and very big when you reach it. But it is just very close and very small.

There are the stones that hide secrets inside. Forty to sixty million years old secrets of plants that were hiding under a glacier all this time. Plants that grew there when it was very warm. Now it is all in permafrost.

The village that naps in sunlight during night time. The long shadows. The wind that does not reach anything, and comes from the sea or the glaciers. The moment when the wind stops.

The line between the known and unknown. The touchable.

The clouds that can travel to see it all as long as they do not get stuck on mountain tops. Some of them were hanging in the same place for three days.

The colours that sometimes were there and then it all could turn to black and white.

Summer continues. In Finland it is very green and warm, compared to the polar images above. The thunder storm of last night did not come. More boat trips, statue museum, bicycling, swimming. The starry nights are here. Still I continue to think of those landscapes.

Have a beautiful weekend!

ONE FOREST STORY

One day the one that whistled in a tree, early in the morning, was found behind a window in the afternoon.

Forest walk, tummies full of berries after a cold dip in a lake. Sun shined and the moss looked warm and soft. Pillows, I saw, and mattresses, sofas and armchairs. Handfuls of berries to reach, to drink and eat. There would be everything. Dense pine branches as a roof, the hill to see the first sun rays and wave good bye to the last disappearing ones.

Trumpet orchestra of the forest hummed a slow windy song all around.

Trees, small and tall. Some smaller, but denser ones were tickling curiosity forming a nice beginning of a path. The blue sky would not be visible under those branches.

A tree to hang your beard into. Or a tree to borrow a beard from to dress up for a royal forest dinner.

The waves rushed to the shore, the clouds to the left. Crackling fire was waiting inside with a blueberry pie. Turning bike and bicycling back home on a sunny autumn forest road. Pebbles making a nice rhyme under tires.

Warm cloudy morning greetings!

ON AN ADVENTURE

An easy way to travel is to look up to the sky. To see the clouds chasing each others, to see the stars to blink even they are stone and gas up in the space, far away. To see airplanes flying and the flapping wings of birds. Dragonflies, so many these days, with their glimmering bronze wings in the sun. Lost balloons and a yellow leaf of this autumn whirling in the wind.

Two photos through my windows of these yellow autumn days, one photo (detail) of a painting Adventure on A Windy Day, available at BSDA.

Warm golden moments, happy September!

THESE SUMMER NIGHTS

Warm summer nights to be spent in parks, in harbors, bicycling home before the thunder arrives. Stopping to swim on the way.

More thunder in the air, still sunny. Time enough for one more swim.

Soft shadowed Sunday greetings.

DINNER PICNIC BY SUMMER LAKE

A windy Sunday dinner picnic by the other big lake of this city. Cucumber-melissa-salad, couscous with red lentils, peas and tomatoes seasoned with lovage. Strawberry juice and a chocolate cookie.

A small interview about my work in the latest Frankie Magazine, issue 48. Featuring Winter Sea, Apple Blossom Meadow, Snowhouse and Tree House -paintings. Available as prints in my small shop.

"We still have two hours to spend together!"
"We can do anything that we want to!"
A little happy conversation of two little girls in the shop by the ice cream containers on the way home. Two hours is indeed enough for pretty much anything.

Gentle summer rain caressing the landscape after a sunny day. Sunday for old Finnish music. Sunday for summer tunes.

Have a sweet beginning for the new week!

Edit: Work of mine earlier in Frankie Magazine here.

SUMMER NIGHTS

After rain, sunset. Bicycling while other people too get out again after a heavy rain fall.

For today, more rain. But not quite yet. Hopping to my bicycle saddle. Is there enough of time for a late morning tea by one of the harbors?

Have a calm beginning for the new week!

FROM LAKE TO LAKE

From strawberry bushes to blueberry bushes. To raspberry bushes. Drying leaves for tea. Own onions, herbs. Freezer filled also with mushrooms. Always in between a morning or an evening swim. Small trips by boat or a kayak. A water bird diving under while paddling. This morning a rooster sang the morning melodies from the other side of the lake. Hello August!

P.s. Dear L, was so lovely to meet you & have that warm promenade. Hopefully soon again!
